Strut & Dorothy
Born from heritage, heart, and home in Austin
Our food is inspired by the rich culinary traditions of Southern, African, Spanish, Cajun, and Appalachian cultures - each one woven together into something deeply personal and powerfully shared. These influences tell a story of migration, resilience, celebration, and connection. At Strut & Dorothy, we honor those stories in every dish we serve.
I don't cook by the book—I cook by feel. Every dish comes from my soul. The flavor may shift ever so slightly from one day to the next, but the heart of it never changes. If it's a little sweeter or a little more savory than the last time, that's not inconsistency—that's authenticity. That's how you know it's real. -Chef Chad Radford
Southern cooking is more than a style of food - it's a way of loving people. It's slow-simmered pots, seasoned cast iron, fresh herbs, bold spices, and recipes passed down through generations. It's gathering around the table, sharing laughter, and finding comfort in a warm plate made with care.
We believe in unity through diversity. Just as our flavors come from many places, so do the people who gather at our tables. Food has always been a bridge - between cultures, between strangers, between past and present. Our mission is to bring people together through meals that feel like home, no matter where you're from.
Every dish at Strut & Dorothy is made with intention, tradition, and love. From soulful Southern staples to dishes touched with Southern and Cajun depth, African vibrancy, and Appalachian heart - we celebrate the beauty that happens when cultures meet.
This is more than a restaurant. It's a table where everyone belongs.
Welcome to Strut & Dorothy.
CHEF/OWNER CHAD RADFORD
My love for Southern cooking didn't begin in a restaurant kitchen. It began in my grandmother Dorothy's kitchen.
She didn't measure with spoons - she measured with instinct. A pinch of this. A handful of that. A taste, a pause, a smile. Her kitchen was always warm, not just from the stove, but from the way she welcomed everyone in. No one left hungry. No one left without feeling seen. She taught me that Southern cooking isn't just about food - it's about care. It's about patience. It's about knowing that a pot of greens needs time, that cornbread deserves a watchful eye, and that love is the most important ingredient in the room.
As a child, I stood beside her, stirring pots that seemed too big for my arms. She would tell stories while she cooked - stories of our Southern, Deep South and Appalachian Roots, - and I began to understand that our food carried history. Every dish was a legacy. Every flavor told a story of resilience, celebration, and survival. What started as watching soon became helping. Helping became creating. And creating became dreaming. I carried her lessons with me: cook with heart, trust your instincts, and never forget where you come from.
Today, Strut & Dorothy is the continuation of her legacy. It's where refined skill meets soulful tradition. Where Southern and Cajun cooking is honored, elevated, and shared. Where unity in diversity lives on every plate.
Everything I cook carries her spirit. And every guest we serve is family - just like she would have wanted.
